"Let's Get Naked and See Who's Stronger."
If that doesn't sound good, maybe some of the other oddly named drinks on Commonwealth's menu will seem like a better pick.
The movie-inspired cocktail list is a little bit silly, a little bit serious and definitely the harbinger of a good time. Much like the bar itself.
The bar has as many rustic details as elegant ones, with exposed brick walls and tables made with old heaters. There are Mod-Podged newspaper and photo clippings on the walls, intentionally designed to curl up and even fall off over time, or to be taken and replaced with others. Intricate chandeliers and art, including the trademark peacock behind the bar, class up the joint -- but never enter pretentious territory.
Oh, and you've got to love the custom beer taps – which are made of a motley crew of objects, including leather hammers, tennis rackets, mallets, table legs and even antlers.
The rooftop deck is perhaps the most alluring (and hyped) aspect of Commonwealth. You can order punch bowl cocktails (basically, their cool version of getting a bottle) and relax at one of the tables overlooking the city, or just take in the view of old Vegas from the bar -- the wall behind the bar has a cutout for that very purpose. In the corner, DJs from L.A. and New York City will play to rooftop parties.
The cocktail menu looks back to the pre-Prohibition era for inspiration, but also features modern drinks and original creations by mixologist Juyoung Kang, served up in glasses that are often made from recycled wine or liquor bottles. In addition to the unusual names, you'll note that there are plenty of beer cocktails -- go on, be a little adventurous and give one a try. Toddies round out the menu, so you can keep warm in the winter months. Not that you'd have to worry too much about that, as the already cozy rooftop area is heated.
As a very novel addition to the ever-growing Fremont East area and a venue that already stands out from day one, Commonwealth is a must-visit for anyone in the area.Valid: Always
Don't let the '50s-style salon décor fool you -- Beauty Bar is in fact a hip bar and live music venue on East Fremont Street.
The bar has a retro cool vibe, complete with hair dryer seats straight out of the '50s. Other throwback touches include linoleum flooring, gold mirrors and a color palette that looks like your old shag carpet called and wants its room back.
The intimate 2,100-square-foot Beauty Bar is always entertaining. You'll find cheap beer nights, karaoke nights and live DJs just about every night. There's a large patio out back in the alleyway (which just adds to the cool ambience) where you'll find popular live bands.Valid: Always
While downtown hasn't necessarily been known for its nightlife scene, Gold Diggers is a place even Kanye West would be proud of.129 East Fremont Las Vegas, NV 89101 Location: Located inside the Golden Nugget
Spread out in a long, skinny, vaguely rectangular shape, Gold Diggers has a killer patio with a killer view of the groups of tourists on Fremont Street and the hordes of costumed characters who may or may not be your weird uncle Larry. You can also see the show on the canopy overhead. Inside they offer a long bar that occasionally has cute ladies dancing on it -- if you'd rather see that than Elmo getting in a fight with someone over not paying $1 for a photo.
Gold Diggers isn't the largest club around, but it works to the benefit of the crowd. There's a good sized dance floor. And, in the more intimate space, you can have a conversation (although you might still have to raise your voice a little). Plus, did we mention that view from the patio?
They've also got screens and DJs and all the other stuff you love in a club. They just have it all at the Golden Nugget where prices are nicer and the vibe is more old Vegas fabulous. You can also spend a lot of time making jokes about the club's name and confusing your coworkers with Kanye West references they don't understand. Do you get it? We've given up. We're just going to go to Gold Diggers and get a drink while you think about it.Thursday- Sunday E Mail VegasNightclubPassport@gmail.com 24 hours in advance for Free Admission and 1 Free Drink.
